The Idol life changed Bowersox By kim kincaid kkincaid@limanews.com 419-993-2059 LimaOhio.com
LIMA — It’s been only two short years since Crystal Bowersox stole America’s heart and emerged the runner up on the nith season of American Idol. As she headlines Square Fair today, she said her life has done an about-face since her Idol time.
“I’m still coming to terms with the changes, but in a good way. It’s all been very good. But, there is really not one part of my life that was untouched from that show,” Bowersox said in a phone interview with The Lima News. “My health is now better, and I’m now a spokesperson for Type 1 Diabetes. It’s given me access to some super-talented people, it’s allowed me to perform with my old friends, and it helped my find my handsome, and talented husband,” she said.
Now at home in Portland, Ore., Bowersox said she looks forward to playing a venue closer to her hometown of Toledo. “It’s always a homecoming for me,” she said.
However, she said she tries to make every concert a homecoming of sorts.
“I try to make every show a personal experience for the audience. I talk to the audience, probably too much, but I talk and share the stories of my life with them so they can get the experience of the songs I’m singing,” she said.
She continues to work on a new album, and has just released a five-song EP, “Once Upon A Time,” available at Amazon, and on her Facebook page. “That has some pre-Idol recordings that I felt were necessary to share with my fans,” she said.
For this concert, Bowersox said only one thing makes her nervous. “A little bit of nervousness before a show is healthy. It keeps you in check and means you care about your job. The only thing that really makes me nervous is that somebody would leave my concert and not take something positive away with them.”
