I took the Greyhound to SF and got there around 3. I encountered a very rude cab driver, who screamed at me when I asked him how far the hotel was from the bus station, after that it got better and better.
I got settled in the room and then took a cab 4 blocks to the venue. I know what you are thinking, but I am a former smoker, and have you seen those steep hills in SF?
I got to the venue around 4:15pm hoping to say hello to Crystal, I found out later that she was hanging out with Ron Razz, understandably, so maybe next time. Anyhow Gwen and Mae met me in the parking lot, while Gwen looked for parking, May and I headed a block over to meet laurirose @jacqueline_VI58 and @gwensokata_VI40 . Mae and I were standing outside of the restaurant when Jacqueline rolled up and said you "2 look like a couple of idiots." lol she and her boyfriend (sorry forgot his name,Not good with names)know how to make a grand introduction. . We went in and spotted Lauri wearing her jacket created by @earth_bitch and we all sat down. Gwen's hubby and daughter also came along, as did Lauri's friend.
The food was very expensive, so I settled for fries and a soda. Soon after we ordered, @ronrazz_VI77 showed up with his niece, sporting his VI shirt created by @syddid_VI24. What a nice guy. We sang happy Birthday to him and shared a slice of birthday cake. We talked about the album and went around the room saying what our favorites tracks are.
Around 7:10 we headed back to the venue, soon after I found my seat, Crystal was introduced. She opened with Ridin with the Radio, it was great, I have to say I like the live version better, and next she sang "Mine all Mine." What a gorgeous heartfelt song, the crowd loved both Crystal and Frankie, cheering during Frankie's solo and cheering when Crystal hit the notes, we all only wish we could hit. I can't remember the exact order. (I was too excited, my voice is horse from screaming) she sang Holy Toledo exquisitely, wow! I was hanging on the edge of my seat with every word. Farmer's Daughter was great as expected.Somewhere in there she mixed in "For What it's Worth" SF is a hippy town so as soon as the crowd recognized the song, they began to cheer. It was terrific. After this Crystal began taking song request somewhere after singing the most perfect version of "piece of My Heart" It sounded 100 times better than at the AI show. The songs requested were "Arlene" bit she said something about the guitar not being right, or something. I couldn't hear, she also sang "Speak Now" and said "This is really cool, taking song request, especially for my songs.
Per request she also sang Sandman, which was great! She asked Frankie if they remembered the song, then said "Do I remember the song"? I have to say that Mama's stage presence has gotten so much better. She toyed with the crowd, telling us that at one time many years ago, she kissed Frankie, and then said "I just embarrassed myself."
After seeing Crystal 3 times, I have to say this was the best yet. She got a standing ovation, when walking around at intermission, people pointed at my shirt and smiled, and one man asked Lauri and I "Where can I get that young ladies’ cd?"
Crystal had to catch a flight before the Doobie Brother's came on, we were told. They recognized her 3 times. The last time was at the end they said "Thank you again to our little sister, Crystal Bowersox. The first time they said they were honored to play with her. If that isn't the ultimate respect, I don't know what is. The Doobies were fantastic too. I am partial to Crystal, so she was the highlight for me. I must be getting old because the loud music hurt my ears, the volume not the singing. I want to say, the VIs I met were super wonderful. Lauri and I met in the lobby when Crystal was done and we were so excited for Crystal, that we started hugging. Mae and I walked to our hotels and all we could talk about was the show. I didn't get to say bye to Jacqueline or Gwen, but they were fun and wonderful people.
If I dig for a negative, I would say that I wish Crystal and Frankie would move a round a little bit, instead of staying stationary. If you read this Crystal, I am sorry, but I know you can take constructive critism. I had a fantastic time and am honored to be a village idiot. The scary bridges, the hotel room (no bathroom) and the cost of the ticket were well worth every penny. Crystal is 100% without a doubt my favorite singer. What a voice! Powerful and sexy and at times sweet and innocent. She is a real bonafide female stud.
