Despite an emense fear of driving on bridges particularly the Bay Bridge in San Francisco, I went to see Crystal at PTTP today. Gwen VI40 saved my friend and I a place to sit and when I arrived Mike VI6 was with her and her husband.
We watched the other bands who were all very good. We decided to move up when the 3rd band came on, just before Crystal's turn.
Prior to Crystal coming out, we saw her in the back of the stage dancing with little T and talking to Michael Franti. Mike then spotted "The Mic stand" and Gwen and I went bonkers.
Soon after Mama and Frankie appeared. We began shouting we love you from front row center and Crystal looked up and said "Oh, hey guys" with a big smile. (she remembered us) I teased her about not having any water balloons with us and she laughed. She said something , but I couldn't quite make it out.
She looked nervous but it didn't hurt her singing. When she was introduced she said "Don't forget Frankie May." and the announcer teased her that she wasn't done, that they would work it out.
Soon after, Crystal started the set out with Sandman and Man, did it sound terrific. I was already battling a cold and by the end of the set my throat was killing me, but just like the bridge issue, it was worth it.
Next she asked the crowd "You don't mind an F bomb do you?" I shouted for her to "bring it" and she laughed, then she sang, nothing other than "Farmer's Daughter" the emotion, WOW! Gwen Cried and I had a brief moment.
Then she sang a new song about a friend overseas, in the military called. "Calm I loved it! It was so cool to hear a Crystal original, that I had never heard before.
She also sang "Crazy" by Gnarles Barkley and again it was wonderful! She also sang Kiss ya and you know what I'm gonna say, fantastic. She sang another new one and in all of the excitement I forgot what she said the name was. My favorite moment of the night was when she sang "On the Run" speachless. I was rocking out and I could see Brian walker doing the same with Little Tony on the corner of the stage behind onevillageidiot, Jeff. It's hard to pick a favorite Crystal song, like VI23 would say "This is my favorite, except for all of them" but "On the Run" was just "Brilliant"
Between each song, Mike and I pleaded with her to sing "Freedom" She just laughed, not sure why...Gwen kept shouting "Holy Toledo" and she smiled. When she was done, she thanked the crowd and then looked down at Gwen, Mike and myself and said "Thank you, you guys". She seemed very pleased to have her VIs there supporting her.
Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
